7x19 construction AISI 316 marine grade stainless steel wire rope for offshore platform
VANFORGE provides various constructions stainless steel wire ropes in quality 304, 316 steels, which are the most corrosive type for marine environments and other places subjected to salt water spray.
FC stands for fiber core, made of natural or synthetic fiber, which can provide excellent flexibility and resistance to contact pressure. The fiber core can store lubrication to reduce the friction between wire strands effectively. Meanwhile, the fiber core makes the rope lower deformable with low elastic rope elongation.
IWRC is short for independent wire rope core, which strengths the rope, reduce tensile stress in individual wires as well as makes the ropes more resistant to crushing. At the same time, IWRC wire ropes have the maximum heat resistance than others FC or WSC ropes.
Stainless Steel Wire Roes for Marine & General Applications
Stainless steel wire ropes have a higher corrosion resistance to salt water than galvanized wire ropes, so they are the best choice of marine applications. Meanwhile, the bright appearance of galvanized wire ropes will dull over time, but stainless steel wire rope will maintain its bright and modern appearance for years. Therefor they are generally used in decoration for modern display and architectural purposes, such as railings, architectural cables, cable balustrades, handrails, etc.
Normally, stainless steel wire rope is made of 304, 316. And here is a simple comparison of these materials:
The 304 material, as the most common type, is magnetic with excellent corrosion resistance and strength compared with galvanized steel wire ropes. But it still will corrode to some extent over year so it is not suitable for marine and food applications.
The 316 materials is the most corrosive resistant type and highly used in high corrosion environments and places with high salt spray. But the 316 material is about 10% less strength than 304 stainless steel.
